A small Diablo 4 patch can matter more than a flashy damage buff when it fixes the moment your endgame run refuses to cooperate. As of August 1, 2026, version 3.1.2 is the active live build, and players spending D4 Gold on upgrades will feel its value most in activities that now start and finish the way they should. It follows version 3.1.0 from June 30 and version 3.1.1 from July 14, but its July 28 release is about reliability rather than a new meta.

Infernal Hordes Get the Fix Players Actually Needed

Infernal Hordes are the headline here because certain abilities could stop the activity from beginning at all. That is more frustrating than losing a close wave or getting rough RNG on a reward chest; you have already chosen your loadout, entered the activity, and then Diablo 4 simply fails to hand you the fight. Version 3.1.2 also removes a Whisper icon issue that could obstruct teleporting to an Infernal Horde. Two different problems, same outcome: less dead time between deciding to grind and actually smashing demons.

What Changed, and Why It Changes Your Run

The patch does not reinvent the Horde loop. You still survive waves, make Infernal Offerings, build Aether, and decide how to spend it at the end. What changed is the reliability around that loop, including reward clarity from earlier adjustments.

Diablo 4 activity point
What 3.1.2 addresses
What you should do
Infernal Horde entry
Blocked starts and obstructed teleport access
Enter normally and focus on wave choices
Reward spending
Gold chest value rises with Aether investment
Avoid spending Aether without a plan
Chest of Talismans
Its displayed 200 Aether cost now matches the requirement
Keep 200 Aether reserved when that chest is your target
The Mistake I Still See in Horde Runs

Players often treat every Infernal Offering as a pure DPS decision, then wonder why their Aether total feels thin. In Diablo 4, a fast clear is only useful if the extra danger does not turn your build into a glass cannon halfway through the run. From what I've seen, the better approach is to choose wave modifiers your build can answer consistently: sustained damage for sturdy setups, mobility-friendly options for ranged builds, and defensive breathing room if your cooldowns are doing most of the work. Chasing the spiciest choice every time is not min-maxing. Sometimes it is just donating a run to the floor.

Quick Post-Patch Horde Checklist

Before committing to a long Infernal Hordes session, use this short Diablo 4 routine. It saves more time than repeatedly tweaking a build after a failed run.

Check that your core damage skill and defensive cooldowns are both on the bar.
Pick Infernal Offerings that match your build's actual strengths, not just the biggest reward text.
Track Aether during the run instead of only looking at it in the reward room.
Reserve 200 Aether if the Chest of Talismans is part of your plan.
Use Diablo 4 Gold for sale carefully as part of your broader gear budget, rather than treating every chest as an automatic gold play.

Pit Safety and Seasonal Progression Also Matter

The Infernal Hordes fixes are not alone. Version 3.1.2 corrects seasonal encounter issues involving frozen Soul Eaters, missing monster spawns, early Deathtoll Chamber endings, excessive Altar of Avarice spawns, and blocked Cosmic Archives Stronghold progress after an objective skip. The Pit also gets its end-of-run invulnerability bubble back with smarter timing: it appears after completion when no Whisper Ambush occurs, or after the ambush boss dies. That is a fair rule. Diablo 4 should not leave you exposed during loot cleanup, but it also should not erase a boss that is still part of the encounter.

Mythics Finally Have a Cleaner Exit Path

The Horadric Cube recipe name now says "Craft" rather than "Upgrade," which better describes creating a Mythic result. More useful for regular players, Mythic Unique items can again be recycled. I could be wrong but this will matter most to people whose stash has become a museum of near-miss drops: an unwanted Mythic should become future value, not permanent clutter. Version 3.1.2 will not transform your build overnight, yet it makes Diablo 4's repeatable endgame less likely to waste your time-and that is exactly what a maintenance patch should accomplish.
